The set of working drawings in this section of the portfolio relates to the design and spatial layout of a brewpub. The brewpub includes areas where beer is made, fermented, stored and served to customers. The brewpub also includes a small commercial kitchen for a restaurant forming part of a bar. Requirements of the brewpub included that some of the beer brewing processes had to be visible to the public and be designed in a way that portrays the "brand" of the brewpub. Another requirement included creating a space where customers could wind down with friends and feel relaxed in a convivial environment.
Upon designing the technical layouts and aspects of the brewpub, an important aspect was to adhere to industry standards in terms of commercial kitchen requirements, restaurant- and bar requirements and public restrooms and wheelchair accessibility. In addition to adhering to these important standards and areas of importance, a layout was decided on that would instil an open feeling and "flow" alongside the bar, restaurant area and visible micro brewery areas.
Incorporating a lively feeling was a goal for the design and layout because it contributed to the creation of a convivial element within the spaces applicable to the public. Interior aspects such as the interior lighting scheme were created to display soft diffused lighting in non-task areas and brighter lights in task areas. Additional interior aspects such as materials and fixtures were all kept modern but with slight rustic elements like timber features and warm hues of colours and textures.
